The Kent Garden Show is always a highlight for us. It's wonderful to see our local community buzzing with new ideas and excitement for the season ahead. If you visited the floral marquees this Bank Holiday and came home with a notebook full of ideas, you might be wondering where to start. We've been looking at some of the most popular displays to help you bring that professional "show look" back to your own corner of Kent.
Making Space for Nature
One of the loveliest things this year was the focus on wildlife. Many displays featured "pollinator pits"—small areas dedicated entirely to bees and butterflies.
The Idea: You don't need a huge space to help local wildlife. A few well-placed pots of Lavender, Salvia, or Foxgloves can create a vital "pit stop" for pollinators. We have a dedicated area in the nursery for these "nectar-rich" stars if you'd like to see which ones are easiest to care for.
The Beauty of "Year-Round" Foliage
While the bright flowers often steal the show, the cleverest gardens used foliage to do the heavy lifting. We noticed a lot of beautiful, deep-purple Heucheras and feathery Ferns used to create texture in shady spots.
The Idea: If you have a tricky, shaded corner that usually looks a bit bare, these "foliage first" plants are a lifesaver. They stay looking good long after the summer flowers have finished.
Small Trees for Big Impact
Specimen trees were a big trend for smaller gardens this year, acting as a natural focal point.
The Idea: A compact Japanese Maple (Acer) or a flowering Amelanchier can completely change the feel of a patio. If you're not sure which tree fits your space, come and have a chat with us—we can help you find a variety that won't outgrow its welcome!
Why We Love Sharing Ideas
The best part of a garden show isn't just the plants; it's the inspiration you bring home. At Gardening World, we're not just here to sell you a pot—we're here to help you enjoy your garden as much as we enjoy our Garden Centre. Our plants are grown right here in Newington, Nr Rainham so they're already used to our local weather and ready to thrive the moment you plant them.
Did you spot a plant at the show that you absolutely loved but didn't catch the name of? Bring a photo into Gardening World Limited! We'd love to help you track it down (or find a local alternative that works even better) so you can get that award-winning look in your own garden this summer.
